Appeals Court grants NCSU request to block judge’s ruling in Poe Hall dispute

A unanimous three-judge state Appeals Court panel has granted North Carolina State University’s request to block a lower court ruling in a legal dispute involving the Poe Hall shutdown. The order issued Thursday granted NC State a temporary stay in its dispute with former grad student and employee Darren Masier.

Bill banning masks in public passes NC Senate

Legislation banning masks in public passed the Senate along party lines after an intense debate on the floor late Wednesday.  House Bill 237, “Unmasking Mobs and Criminals,” restricts the wearing of face masks in public to hide a criminal’s identity. The bill passed in a 30-15 vote and now heads to the House for concurrence.

Federal judge transfers 30-day voter residency challenge, takes no action on injunction

A federal judge has accepted state lawmakers’ request to transfer a lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s 30-day residency requirement for voters. At the same time, the judge took no action on plaintiffs’ request for an injunction blocking the requirement.

Lindberg, Gray guilty in bribery, fraud retrial

A federal jury has found Greg Lindberg and John Gray guilty in a retrial on bribery and fraud charges in connection with their dealings with state Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey after the 2016 election. It’s the second time jurors have convicted Lindberg and Gray of attempting to bribe Causey.
