Gov. Roy Cooper announced Monday that he and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) are trying to entice hospitals with extra Medicaid funding in exchange for eliminating billions in medical debt and preventing it from occurring in the future.

Kinston condemnation ruling could affect state Supreme Court CON case

A recent state Supreme Court ruling in a lawsuit over Kinston’s property condemnation practices could have an impact on a separate case involving state health care regulation. The state Supreme Court issued an order Friday setting a 30-day deadline for new briefs in the case Singleton v. North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The case challenges North Carolina’s certificate-of-need law.

State’s top court orders new reviews of two high-profile media access disputes

A state Supreme Court decision in May involving media access to law enforcement video recordings could help resolve two similar high-profile legal disputes dating back to 2021. One involves the shooting death of Andrew Brown in Elizabeth City. The other focuses on a driving while impaired traffic stop of two Duke basketball players in Orange County.
