Federal judge finalizes order striking down NC abortion pill restrictions

A federal judge finalized her ruling this week against some of North Carolina’s restrictions on access to an abortion pill called mifepristone. The judgment and permanent injunction issued Monday confirmed a ruling US District Judge Catherine Eagles initially announced in April.

Law could restore limited driving privileges for certain DWI offenders

“Currently, there's no pathway for them to get a limited driving privilege. They cannot drive at all legally. So essentially, a lot of these folks, especially in rural areas where there's no public transit, are driving anyway,” said Sen. Danny Britt, R-Robeson.

Federal lawsuit over NC foster care mental health in settlement talks

A settlement could be on the way for a federal lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s use of in-patient psychiatric treatment for children in foster care. Lawyers on both sides of the dispute filed paperwork Monday seeking to delay court proceedings through July 15.

Private school groups back Charlotte Latin at state Supreme Court

State and regional groups promoting private schools support Charlotte Latin in its dispute with two parents at the North Carolina Supreme Court. A court document filed Friday accused parents Doug and Nicole Turpin of  trying to “undermine the bedrock fundamental right of freedom of contract.”
