Judge drops NC group from federal charter school lawsuit

A federal judge in Michigan has dropped the North Carolina Coalition for Charter Schools from a lawsuit challenging rule changes for charters set in Washington, DC. US District Judge Paul Maloney issued a Dec. 6 order granting the US Department of Education’s motion to dismiss the NC coalition from the case.

Federal judge blocks UNC from revealing Jacob Doe’s real name in sex assault case

A federal judge has issued an injunction blocking the University of North Carolina from revealing the real name of Jacob Doe, an expelled student challenging the university’s handling of sexual assault charges against him. US District Judge Martin Reidinger’s injunction order Tuesday scaled back Doe’s initial request. The order applies to the university and its employees but does not extend to students, media outlets, or other “third parties.”

Student stabbed to death at Wake County high school

On Monday, the Raleigh Police Department reported that two students were stabbed at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and transported to the hospital, where one of the students died of injuries. The second victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a press conference delivered by Raleigh Chief of Police Estella Patterson.
