Labor unions request NCDOL examine reinstituting mask mandates and other rules

Left-leaning groups, including the North Carolina Conference of the NAACP, have requested the NC Department of Labor to look at the possibility of instituting rules that would mandate masks and other requirements like social distancing once again in businesses and elsewhere across the state.

For the sake of the pile: My lesson in Christmas equity

When my three children were little, I went to great lengths to ensure that each one’s pile of gifts on Christmas morning was the same number and value. It was an annual exercise that made me (and my husband) a bit crazy. That artfully arranged collection of gifts on Christmas morning was my way of saying “I love you.” Now I know I inadvertently taught them a lesson in the futility of chasing equity.

Student stabbed to death at Wake County high school

On Monday, the Raleigh Police Department reported that two students were stabbed at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and transported to the hospital, where one of the students died of injuries. The second victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a press conference delivered by Raleigh Chief of Police Estella Patterson.
