The father of North Carolina’s Speaker of the House passed away on Monday at his home due to long-term health complications.
Rick Moore, father of Speaker Tim Moore, died at the age of 75 due to long-term health complications. In an obituary, the family said he “possessed a servant’s heart and was always mindful of his civic duties, which led him to serve the citizens of Kings Mountain for 12 years as a city council member.”
Due to his passing, the House and Senate have canceled all committee meetings for the week and will not vote on any items. The General Assembly’s week-long delay raises questions about the short session’s end date, which legislators had predicted would end on time.
Born in Cherokee County, South Carolina, Rick lived with his wife, Jean Falls Moore, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. He served his country as a military policeman in the US Army. A funeral service is set for Wednesday, May 29, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.
Several political figures offered their condolences to the family on Tuesday, including Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson and Gov. Roy Cooper, who appointed Rick Moore to the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board in 2017.
